SUNY Initiatives

• Cetus

  A consortium of SUNY, the California State University System, and CUNY formed to explore a variety of initiatives in technology-assisted teaching, learning, and research.

   

• SUNY Connect

  A SUNY wide virtual library initiative. It will provide a core set of online library services, including a web based information literacy course, to all SUNY campuses, as well as all SUNY students, faculty and staff.

   

• SUNY Learning Network

  More than 40 SUNY campuses offer online courses through the SUNY Learning Network

Gateways to Resources

These sites provide links to multiple resources on distance learning, including listings of courses and universities participating in distance education, links to articles and reviews, organizations, etc.

• ALN Web

  The Web of Asynchronous Learning Networks provide workshops to prepare on-line classes, as well as a both a journal and magazine with related articles.

   

• Distance Education and Training Council

  A nationally recognized accrediting program for distance education, this site presents general information, including a list of links to accredited institutions.

• Distance Education Clearinghouse

  The University of Wisconsin-Extension provides general resources to distance education, as well as specifics of their distance learning program.

• The Open University: International Centre for Distance Learning

  Two primary databases are Distance Learning and Courses Database, with links to courses and universities having a distance education program, and Distance Learning Literature Database, which contains abstracts of journal articles on distance education.

   

• USDLA

  The United States Distance Learning Association site provides links to policy statements that have formed the basis for legislation and government proposals in distance learning.

   

• World Lecture Hall

  Provides links to pages created by faculty to deliver course syllabi. Of special interest are the links to Library and Information Science courses.

• Asynchronous Learning Networks Magazine

  Published by Vanderbilt University, this journal focuses on current developments in colleges and univerisities, as well as methodology for effective distance education courses.

   

• Distance Education Research Update Newsletter

  Produced bi-annually by Central Queensland University's Division of Distance and Continuing Education, this newsletter provides information on research conducted on distance learning.

   

• Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks

  Also published by Vanderbilt, this peer-reviewed journal is published on an irregular basis.

   

• The Online Chronicle of Distance Education and Communication

  Produced by Nova Southeastern University, this journal is published semi-annually and contains an exchange of information about distant learning and online communication, including articles, conference announcements, and reviews.

  From Pennsylvania State University, the Center seeks to promote research in the field of distance education and to act as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of information.

   

• Center for Distance Learning Research

  Provides technological support for funded distance learning projects. Sponsors the Distance Education Conference.
